Annual
Desert Garden Tour
Sunday, April
20th - 2008
The
Desert Horticultural Society of the Coachella Valley announces its 3rd
annual desert garden tour for Sunday, April 20th, 2008.
Registration will start at 12:45 in the courtyard garden area of the
Corridor Shops. The tour will run from 1 pm until 4 pm. The
Corridor is located at 515 N. Palm Canyon at the entrance to downtown
Palm Springs (the cross street is Alejo). There is plenty of
street parking surrounding the Corridor as well as a large public lot in
the back, off Alejo.
The
tour will include five residential gardens in Palm Springs. It is
self-guided. Each property will have a set of featured desert and
desert-adapted plants that will be identified and each property will
have a sheet of information that participants can take home with them
about the identified plants, however not all plants will be labeled and
identified. There will be docents at each property to help answers
additional questions.
The event is open to the public and is free of charge, although the
Desert Horticultural Society will gladly accept donations. Only
those that register will be allowed to participate in the garden tour.
Because you will be entering the gardens of private residences,
participants will be asked to sign a waiver of liability and agree to
abide by a few simple requests with regard to respecting the properties.
We ask that participants leave pets at home, that small children be
closely supervised, that participants stay on the assigned pathway, that
they do not take cuttings or other materials unless they have explicit
permission to do so and that they be sensitive to the neighbors,
particularly with regard to parking. We also advise participants
to wear comfortable shoes and avoid open-toed sandals, to wear sunscreen
and protective clothing such as hats if needed, to stay well-hydrated
(our average daytime temperature will be in the high 80s), and most
importantly to come and enjoy a beautiful afternoon in our desert resort
town.
